Last week I emailed my Dad one of my eBooks that helps people who feel overwhelmed and stuck to mentally declutter, take action and make progress.
He was talking about this great quadrant model he'd seen in a presentation that helps people with productivity and time management. I said - "I know the one! My Simplify Your Life eBook features this as one of the 5 steps."
Dad replied within minutes to let me know there was a typo on page 3.
I'd already sent this out to over 20 people who requested it after my recent masterclass + I'd made it downloadable for others too.
As someone who has valued perfectionism highly in the past, had this happened a couple of years ago I would've instantly edited the typo, sent out new copies, probably apologised to people...
However I knew the typo didn't change the value the eBook gives to people, it didn't change how it helps them through my 5 steps to Simplify Your Life.
I hit reply and said "oh well, this teaches people it's ok to make mistakes and done is better than perfect, right?"
Because in recent years I shifted my mindset and got comfortable with imperfection.I've become ok with my ducks not being in a row (currently all over the pond).
I now choose to take messy action because it's better than staying stuck!!
Perfectionism is a double-edged sword. It motivates me to perform at a high standard, but it can also hold me back and slow me down when it comes to getting things done. It both helps me and hinders me.
Do you experience this too?
Can the thinking "done is better than perfect" help you take action and make progress on whatever it is you want to do?
Less than perfect is ok for some things that we do.
It gives us more time to focus on the important stuff that really matters!
I highly recommend giving less than perfect a go, and see what progress you can make.
If perfectionism is keeping you stuck, you are not alone. Like me and many of my clients, we've experienced this. It's something I still manage and override personally. I'd love to help you take steps to ditch perfectionism (when you don't need it) so you can take action and make progress - so if you want to chat, reach out!
